of
work
to
do
.
I
will
be
damned
busy
in
the
following
two
days
~~
The schedule for this weekend.
The code for the dyadic outlier detection. I just finished the algorithm and will revise it based on a previous version.
Experimental results.
English writing. Style manual for the composition class. This is not very urgent. But I suspect I will have no time for this next week. So I will try to start this weekend.
The second draft for the final long paper.
Record the sound for the special English pronuciation class. (Boring)
Prepare for the exit interview. ( I hate this! )
Presentation preparation for the 788. (next Tuesday)

plan 5.28, research! & results!
1. Can I visualize the generated data?
2. What is the significance of the proposed work? Could you find some other applications? Could you find the difference between the previous approaches, such as the clutering, normal outlier detection, and two variable outlier detection in statistics.
3. Implement the algorithm.

A nice and productive day.
1. I finished the script and got it running on stdsun. Tomorrow I can get the dataset for the project.
2. The script is not very convinient on processing the texts. I have to get familiar to the Python and use it to write the scripts in the future.
3. Finish one annotation today.

a nice song
I heard this so many times in college. One of my roommates often played this. Now I really missed him.
A link for the song: http://yuhong.hbsz.cn/music/UploadFiles_7909/zheli.mp3

about research
Sigh, I cannot find a proper motivating example; what I have done seems meaningless.
An ideal dataset for the proposed method in dyadic outlier mining should satisfy the following property:
1. High dimensionality
2. The attributes are independent
Where is it?

plan 5.13
1. Yesterday, a girl talked about the secret of success when eating supper. From that conversation, I figured out two kind of people are difficult to survive. One is too stupid, the other is too clever. The first kind is unable to do the jobs, while the second kind is too clever to do those boring tasks. However, without these boring foundations, one can never succeed.
Fortunately, most of us do not belong to the two extremes. We should be confident about ourselves.
The to-do list today:
1. Prepare for the presentation tomorrow.
2. Prepare for the presentation tomorrow.

This must be a busy week. I must try to survive it.
1. I need to assign time for my reading every week. Three times a week:
a. Monday 4pm-6pm
b. Wednesday 8am-10am
c. Saturday afternoon 2pm-6pm
If I do not do so, I will never have time to read the books I need.
2. Prepare for the presentation for this Thursday. (3 hours)
This is such a difficult paper. maybe the most difficult one I had ever read...
However, I must understand it today and starting preparing for the slides for it. Beside, the project.. Give a outline of the algorithm.
3. Read the papers for tomorrow's presentation. (3hours)
3. Do not try to do all. Accumulate little by little.

plan 5.1
Change of plan:
Today I want to read some influential system papers from the industries. Two papers are selected. One is about MapReduce: "J. Dean and S. Ghemawat, MapReduce: Simplified Data Processing on Large Clusters, OSDI'04". The other is about BigTable: "F. Chang and et al., Bigtable: A Distributed Storage System for Structured Data, OSDI'06". Further comments will be added at the end of the day.
Plan today:
1. Finish reading the textbook 725. Read the notes.
2. The code for global trees. Talk with Brian about this.
3. The annotation writing for 788 and composition.
4. Read ACL papers and the OSDI04, 06.
I did not have the time to read the Bigtable today. I will read it tomorrow.
The mapreduce is a interesting model about parallel computing. The concepts seemed easy to understand and use, but the amazing part to me is the fault tolerance, load balancing and task scheduling. I just read half of this paper, and I will continue read this and the critics about Mapreduce.
